So you have attracted a customer to your landing page, how can you ensure they take the next step forward?  The layout and design of your page are crucial in convincing visitors to invest time in your company.

First impressions always matter, whether meeting someone for the first time, trying out a new product or opening a website, opinions are quickly formulated. Visitors’ first thoughts are likely to be “is this complicated?” and “will they be able to answer my query?” This can mean making a number of clear, simple landing pages that each compliment different search criteria.

One of the first things customers should see is an offer, discount or freebie. Do not over complicate the page with unnecessary company details and product specifications. Remember your task here is to get a customer’s contact information and sell your offer.  Do not include links of navigation bars that detract from this goal.

Use graphics sparingly, make sure they are related to the product, and include a caption and link to the offer. Surveys show people will click on these. Landing pages are flyers, visitors will not read them they will quickly scan them. Therefore use bullet points to get the essential information across and do not overwhelm potential customers with details.

Ask for the basic essential details. The more questions you ask, the more likely they will abandon your site. You can always come back for more information once you have built your relationship. Emailing offers is an excellent way to confirm they have given a valid address. Remember to always say “Thank-you,” such a page can in return lead deeper into your site or to another offer. Successful landing pages are not rocket science but can make sales take-off.
