When is the right time to redesign your website? With changes to the Internet occurring at such a swift pace, how long should a company leave it before consulting a web design company?
The first question you should ask yourself is what are the reasons for wanting to update your business website. There are both good and bad reasons for redesigning your web presence, among the good reasons are re-branding the company or product line, repositioning within the market place and updating because of new functionality or codes of practice. Completely unnecessary changes would include fashion and trend following. Is the site genuinely ugly or is it just that autumn shades are out this month?
Misconception and limited knowledge can also cause confusion, as lack of understanding can be a dangerous thing. Are the changes you are looking for necessary? Will it advance your business or is it just because a slightly more developed site already has it? Another question when considering redesign or repackage - does your current site function perfectly well, but need tweaking? Or would it be better to start from scratch?
Ultimately the level of work needed will depend on the actual site in the first place. Accessibility was not such an issue a couple of years ago and there were limited or no alternative options for disabled Internet users. In our more enlightened days, such issues are of prime consideration. How easy is your site to navigate, and do you provide text transcripts of audio content? Can color-blind visitors distinguish the color combinations? Forescene can help understand current developments and help advise the most practical solution for updating your site.
